Even though my eldest in already 5 years old, I still consider myself as a new parent. I am struggling to apply positive parenting little by little. As a matter of fact, I have gathered and read several materials about positive parenting or positive discipline and trying my best to apply them in my daily life with my two children. I must admit, I am a type of person who easily loses temper and has the tendency to shout and spank my daughter when she misbehaves. This makes me feel guilty - in the sense that I fear that such act may affect my child's personality like low-self esteem or other not-so-good characteristics in the future. It's better late than never, as they usually say. I want to change my way of training my children to be better persons as they grow older.

Hello Ladies!
It's really fun to re-unite with old friends after 16 years. We had a fun chat and all of us are wanting to meet again and I hope our other classmates/batchmates can join us, too.

I don't have a class picture to share because taking class pictures is not a thing in my school before. Nonetheless, I would like to share with you these two photos. It was taken last May 2010 at SM Megamall. That was a mini-reunion/meeting/pre-planning for our school Grand Alumni Homecoming that happened last month. With me were my high school classmates + my daughter Yasmin :)

GT #3: Physical Education (PE) - My Most Hated Subject
I can sing but I am not a sports buff, I can't dance, too. That is the main reason why I never loved Physical Education subjects when I was still a student. In college, I dropped once and nearly failed from 2 of my PE subjects. I only enjoyed a class once, I think it was about Individual and Team Sports. I learned how to play Darts and even won in the tournament. That was only the time I got a good grade in PE.
I've read few Girltalkers who hate Math. Hey girls, I have something for you, you might want to read this blog or share it to your kids or siblings. The blog called Sipnayan o Matematika is owned and maintained by my good friend/colleague/ (MRT) commuter buddy during our graduate school days in UP. He is a Math teacher by profession who's willing to share cool tips and tricks in Math using our native language - Tagalog :)
This is my 3rd entry for:

Too Excited for Her New School
Thea is attending Preparatory classes now in her new school. Yesterday was her first day at that school. I heard lots of stories from her and her Tita when I arrived home last night. However, there is one not-so-good news. She fell from the stairs few minutes before going to school. So, she was feverish and not feeling well. Although some doctors do not believe in "hilot", we decided to bring her to a known "manghihilot" in our neighborhood who confirmed that Thea suffered a sprain. Thanks God she slept well last night.

Green Living Monday: GNHS Batch 94 Booth
My high school Alma Mater had a colorful Alumni Homecoming last May 6-13, 2011. One of the highlights of the celebration is the Best Booth Competition, and here is our batch's entry:
Ms. Lorelie Hagos of GNHS Batch 1994
As you can see, the our "house" is made up of indigenous materials such as bamboo, anahaw (Footstoolpalm), and coconut lumber. Too bad, I was not able to help in building this booth. I really hope I'll be able to join the next reunion.

Train up a child on the way he should go...
My daughter's school will formally start their class tomorrow, June 15. I attended the Welcome and Orientation Program yesterday. The school principal discussed about the rules and regulations of the school, the calendar of activities for this school year, and presented the teaching and non-teaching personnel, too.
At first I was a bit apprehensive that the school we've chosen, being known as a Christian academy, might infuse religion in their curriculum. However, based on my research, they are a non-sectarian school. The school principal confirmed it yesterday. What they do is to teach the children the different Christian values as well as positive Filipino culture. The most striking part of the school head's PowerPoint presentation, was the Maranatha Christian Academy's philosophy, which is based on Proverbs 22:6 which states that:
"Train up a child on the way he should go and when he is old, he shall not depart from it."
That is also exactly what is being taught to us in our church. We should teach our children as early as we can for them to become better citizens and most of all righteous servants of God.

Dallas Vs Miami Game 6 on NBA 2001 Finals
UPDATE: Dallas Mavericks won the NBA championship game in a score of 105-95.
As requested by my husband, I am currently monitoring the game 6 in NBA Website. It seems like Dallas Mavericks will finish the fight today because they're leading in the 3rd quarter. Well, let's see later if they really could bring home the title as the champion.

GT #2: English is my Favorite Subject
I Love
ENGLISH
I failed to write my Girls Talk entry last with the topic Favorite Teacher. In my secondary school days, my favorite teacher was Ms. Gabionza, my fourth year English teacher. Aside for the fact that she taught the subject very well, she is also beautiful and friendly. Ms. Gabionza is now in the U.S. teaching special education. In one of our conversations in a social networking site, she said she wants to go back to our hometown and share her additional learnings and experiences to the students there.
For this week the topic is still related to school which is Favorite Subject. Since my elementary days, English will always be my favorite. I love writing essays and slogans. I even won in some competitions before. In college, my grades in English subject is always higher that my major subjects, hahaha.

Red Hot Mondays #1: Pretty in Red Gown
My very first entry to:
Thea participated in the United Nations Day parade when she was still in the Nursery Class. I bought this red gown in Divisoria.
I submitted this photo in Pinoy Smiles online photo contest. Luckily, she was chosen as one of the monthly finalists. The organizer sent us a Certifcate of Appreciation all the way from Canada. I'm planning to have it framed and display it in Thea's room. :)

Back To School

After two months of summer vacation here in the Philippines, around 25.7 million students troop down to schools today, whether in public or private school, from preschool to college. The Department of Education (DepEd) did all the necessary preparations such as the Oplan Balik Eskwela (OBE) and Brigada Eskwela or National Schools Maintenance Week. Despite all the efforts of the local and national government, hundreds and thousands of teachers cry for pay hike and improve Philippine education system. That' what I've seen and read in the news last weekend.
How about us, parents - are we ready yet? and how about the students, are they excited in going back to school?
