The Aftermath of Furious "Ondoy"

Saturday, September 26, 2009. The rained poured overnight until Saturday morning. I was awake at 3am doing the last part of a 12-week reaction paper in one of my masteral subjects. While squeezing my brain about the Philippine national innovation system and R&D management, I could hear heavy rains pouring down our roof. There are portions of the house that has been wet for more than 24 hours due to problematic gutter or downspout or whatever they call it. I finished my paper at around 9:15am. I received a text from my classmate and she said she can’t go to school, roads in Taytay-Cainta area where she resides was already submerged in flood waters.

It was raining so hard so I decided not to leave the house anymore. I overheard my neighbors panicking outside. To cut the story short, our area was already flooded; water was almost 5 ft deep outside and knee-deep inside our house. Good thing, refrigerator, electric fan and LPG tank were the only valuables in the ground level of our house and we managed to transfer them in a secure, dry place. My niece who works in Pasay City was stranded. There was no serious damage and all of my family members are safe.

Typhoon Ondoy left residents in the metropolis and other provinces in desolation - claiming lives of hundreds of people, thousands homeless, and damaged properties amounting to million pesos.

I’m still puzzled what really happened last Saturday. Reports say the dams have exceeded the spill levels. Several people say it’s because of climate change which I totally agree. The incident only gives a signal, a wake-up call to every individual to stop indiscriminate dumping of garbage and illegal logging. Let’s act now, Go Green. Stop climate change!
Let's pray for everyone's safety. God Bless!

Family Day 2009

I'm still exhausted yet overwhelmed with what I witnessed few hours ago. The Day Care Center where my daughter is currently enrolled celebrated Family Day. Day care recipients/pupils, parents, day care workers, barangay officials were present during the activity. There were fun games, calisthenics, and special numbers from selected children and parents, and
Some photos during the Family Day celebration:

Little Thea was kinda exhausted yet oozing with excitement during the past few days. They're practicing the calisthenics and a special number for the activity come September 24.

Here's a simple checklist on what we need for the school affair:

For Thea:

1. Yellow Shirt (for calisthenics) - ok
2. White Shirt (for calisthenics and dance) - bought the fabric; Nanay will sew it
3. Pompons - ok
4. Red tube top (for dance) - ok
5. Rubber shoes - ok
6. Dancing shoes - ok

oh by the way, she wants a new pair of earrings (kasi daw sasayaw sya) :D

Me:
1. My share for the food is cake and maybe I'll prepare some chicken lollipop.
2. Need to rehearse for Teacher Leny asked me lead the singing of the National Anthem

That's all for now... I'll review the list tonight hehe....

Tuesday Toot

Yay! I just finished a 59-page report (in Excel format). Though there are some data need to be validated, I felt relieved coz the bulk of unfinished reports on my desk will be reduced.

My daughter’s accomplishments always inspired me as I juggle tedious day job and all my other duties. Her “first” exam results were released yesterday. And what, out of the total of 105 items, she got 103… hmm two mistakes. Well, with her teacher’s guidance, of course! J. She’s learning, and I think she’s ready for the real school next year. When I say real school, it means that I can already enroll her on a regular pre-school class. Whether private or public school - we are yet to decide.

I told Hubby about Thea’s exam results. The happy and proud Papa instructed me to bring her to Jollibee this weekend as a reward for her…

Note: I'd like to apologize for Tuesday Toot meme participants for failing to submit my entry regularly.

V-Tech

That is Thea's second V-Tech toy. The first one was a V-Smile for babies which is an interactive video game that can either be attached to a TV or play with the gadget on a Play Alone mode. V-Smile was her Tito Jojo's gift on her 2nd birthday last year.

V-Tech Active-8 is her second gadget and a reward from Papa and her Tito Jojo for her good performance in Nursery class :)

Thea says "Thank you so much Papa and Tito for my V-tech, girly perfume and a cute bag...

I'm learning, continuously learning...Last night, our topic in Financial Analysis class was focus on initial public offering (IPO). We were assigned to research on IPO of local and some foreign companies. And guess what, I was the first one called to report my research on Splash Corporation's IPO, without Powerpoint, just a brief overview of the topic. I think I did it fairly well.

My friend/classmate reported on a company that manages casinos in Macau. Online casino is becoming familiar. I told my friend that there a cool website that will answer all queries regarding online casino. The website gathers all information ranging from list of online casinos in the US, online and offline gaming, betting, etcetera. Quite interested she said she browse online casino news

We’ll See Each Other Again (A Personal Tribute to our Beloved Bro. Eraño G. Manalo)

It was a last Tuesday morning, September 1, 2009, when I received most shocking message on YM. Sis, pumanaw na si Ka Erdy. Totoo ba? (Sister, Ka Erdy passed away. Is it true?), said my friend Abel. I was shocked. I even told him that the news may not be true. In fact, both of us were in doubt. I sent the same messages to my other INC friends, and phoned my sister-in-law at home. At that time, she was watching INC Spokesperson Bro. Bienvenido Santiago delivered the official announcement of our beloved leader’s death through NET 25 and GEM TV (INC-owned TV networks). Bro. Eraño G. Manalo died last Monday, August 31, 2009 at 3:53 p.m. due to cardiopulmonary arrest.

I wanted to go Central Temple right at that moment. I cried. I lost my concentration on my work. I talked to my co-worker who’s also an Iglesia Ni Cristo. It was one of my saddest days of my life. I felt that I lost a father the second time around. My father died nine years ago, a year after my college graduation.

Farewell, our beloved Bro. Eraño G. Manalo, the Executive Minister of Iglesia Ni Cristo since 1963 to 2009. It is he who continued the spiritual leadership of his father, Brother Felix Y. Manalo, God’s Messenger in these last days. He spent 46 years of his fruitful life in leading the Church. His physical body will not be here anymore, but his inspiring messages, his constant reminders and advice, and most of all his love will remain forever in our hearts. We promise to remain steadfast in our faith, so we can see each other again in the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ to bring us all together in the Holy Land. We love you so much, Ka Erdy.

The outpouring love and support of the whole Iglesia Ni Cristo continues. Thousands or perhaps millions of brethren went to the Central Temple in Diliman, Quezon City. Despite bad weather conditions, hunger, and the difficulty of queuing up, we, members of INC from different parts of the Philippines went there to pay our last respect to our beloved Ka Erdy. Some INC from other parts of the globe went home hurriedly as soon as they heard the news.

I had my share of unforgettable experiences of brethren during the weeklong wake of Ka Erdy. My family and I went to the Central Temple last Saturday (September 5) but we’re not able to go inside for the public viewing. We went home tired, hungry, and sad. After performing our duties in the Sunday worship services, we went there again and it’s all worth it. My sister, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and I were also to see Ka Erdy for the last time.

His inspiring message during the 95th Anniversary Celebration of Iglesia Ni Cristo lingers in my heart and mind. In his message, he reminded us to remain true in our calling and help spread the words of God. No amount of hardships, sufferings and problems could take us away from the Church. We will be members of his true Church until the very end days of our lives. We promise to uphold the words of God and obey the Church Administration to be headed by your son and successor Brother Eduardo V. Manalo.

Today at exactly 12:00 noon, Ka Erdy was finally laid to rest at the Tabernacle, INC Complex QC.

The photo below was taken last night while we are on our way inside the Central Temple.
