Farewell, Mamay Mencia

1 comment:
I just finished a phone conversation with Mama. Likewise, I was able to talk to her two sisters - my aunts whom I haven’t seen for years. I was teary-eyed when I put down my phone. Today’s my other Aunt’s (older than my mom) funeral. She passed away last August 20 due to liver ailment. The last time I visited Mama, she said that Mamay Mencia got sick. When I was still in the province, we used to visit them at least once a year. They live near the beach.

I feel sorry because my sister and I weren’t able to go home to attend the wake. Farewell, Mamay Mencia, we will miss you!

MTM Batch 2008 Acquaintance Party

4 comments:

I almost forgot to blog about our batch’s acquaintance party dubbed as “An Evening of Black and White". It was held last August 16, 2008 at Katips Bar and Grille in Quezon City. Well, it’s better late than never, as they say. That was one of the three milestones in our entire stay at UP-TMC. Our next activities would be the year-end party (Christmas Party to our Catholic friends), and the summer activity.

Though we already developed camaraderie during the series of workshops we attended last summer, we still need to "party" since it is a tradition at the TMC. Said event was spearheaded by the hardworking Batch 2008 Officers. It is not easy to organize activities like this ‘coz it entails lots of preparation –from concept/theme to date and venue to games and tokens. Kudos to you, guys! We would like to express our gratitude to two of our professors (one of which is also the Executive Director of the unit) and some senior students who graced the occasion. Your words of encouragement and inspiring messages mean a lot to us.

As part of the Information Committee, I assisted in conceptualizing the website for our batch and eventually to other MTM students. It was launched during the party. Here’s the screenshot of our website.

Certainly, it was a night filled with fun and laughter!

The theme is black and white, yet I'm wearing violet :)

On Direct Selling

2 comments:
I didn’t realize that I have an entrepreneurial talent, until I got involved in direct selling. According to wikipedia, direct selling is the marketing of products or services to consumers through sales tactics including presentations, demonstrations, and phone calls. It provides an opportunity for individuals to find fulfilment, express their entrepreneurial talents and gain financial independence. But beware! because sometimes it can become a kind of pyramid scheme.

My first formal venture in this kind of part-time job started when a representative from a company that sells fashion and lifestyle products knocked at our door on one Saturday afternoon. She explained about their products and encouraged me to join since they are offering free registration. There goes the curiousity in me. I joined the company on that the same day.

Eventhough my market is still small, I am enjoying this new money-making and stress-reliever activity. Btw, I am earning 25% commission on every item sold. Not bad. In fact, a friend also invited me to join another direct selling adventure- a sister company of a leading clothing line in the country. I agreed to meet her next week for me to sign the registration form.

How about you, have you been engaged in direct selling?

Big Savings

3 comments:
I just want to blog about this... Thank so much to my officemate, Joyce, who handed me down 10 tablets of Prevacid. This mean a lot to me 'coz I can save Php370 (if I'll buy it through our drug subsidy program) or as much as Php1,000 (if bought in other drugstores).

Again, thank you so much Joyce!

Acid Reflux Attacks Again

5 comments:
I am suffering from acid reflux or in medical terms gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). By the way, I was diagnosed of this illness last 2006 and undergone series of medications already.

This morning, I experienced its major symptom, heartburn. I suddenly felt the burning sensation in my stomach while I am doing my regular office work in front of my desktop. Then, later I had difficulty in breathing - sign that it's already heartburn. My colleague consoled me, and I asked one of them to buy me 1 tablet of Prevacid in the nearby drugstore. One of the supervisors requested somebody from Employee's Clinic to check on me. Few minutes later, a nurse and a staff came... The nurse checked my blood pressure - 100/70, so it's normal. However, she still convinced me to stay in the clinic for a while so that a doctor will attend to me and prescribe medicine/s if necessary.

I stayed at the clinic for more than a hour. The doctor prescribed 3 types of medicines that I need to take for two weeks. According to him, I should undergo endoscopy (involves insertion of a thin scope through the mouth and throat into the esophagus and stomach) after completing the medication.

I'm okay now but I don't like to suffer from this illness anymore that's why I really want to undergo endoscopy immediately...

What an Angel Says...

An Angel says, 'Never borrow from the future. If you worry about what may happen tomorrow and it doesn't happen, you have worried in vain. Even if it does happen, you have to worry twice.'

1. Pray
2. Go to bed on time.
3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed.
4. Say No to projects that won't fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health. 5. Delegate tasks to capable others.
6. Simplify and unclutter your life.
7. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.)
8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places. 9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard things all together.
10. Take one day at a time.
11. Separate worries from concerns . If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you do and let go of the anxiety . If you can't do anything about a situation, forget it.
12. Live within your budget; don't use credit cards for ordinary purchases. 13. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.
14. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut). This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.
15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.
17. Get enough rest.
18. Eat right.
19 Get organized so everything has its place. 20. Listen to a tape while driving that can help improve your quality of life.
21. Write down thoughts and inspirations.
22. Every day, find time to be alone.
23. Having problems? Talk to God on the spot. Try to nip small problems in the bud. Don't wait until it's time to go to bed to try to pray.
24. Make friends with Godly people.

25. Laugh.
26. Laugh some more!
27. Take your work seriously, but not yourself at all.
28. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can).

29. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).
30. Sit on your ego.
31. Talk less; listen more.
32. Slow down.
33. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe.
34 Every night before bed, think of one thing you're grateful for that you've never been grateful for before.

GOD HAS A WAY OF TURNING THINGS AROUND FOR YOU.

I'm passing these tags to my friend, Bhang.

Site Improvement

5 comments:
I made some sort of site improvement today. Classifying related widgets, banners as well as text links made my side bar more organized.

I also joined Sponsored Reviews, another way towards monetizing this blog. I do hope I'll be successful this time...

Only two days before the examination, and yet I still have to review 14 more lessons. Oh no! I'm nervous and still contemplating on my professor's statement that the one she'll be giving us serves as a practice comprehensive exam...
